Boiled eggs served as such do not contribute much flavour to the meal. Earlier in my blog I have given the recipe for Kallu Kadai Muttai using boiled eggs. This egg masala is a recipe I came across in Fathima Shahjahan’s Chicken Specials. This uses a large amount of tomatoes and onions, which gives body to the masala. Moreover, the egg halves on the tomato base in the masala make a very attractive display.
The mother toils in the kitchen all the time to place tasty victuals on the table and on time for the family to feast upon. Therefore, it’s only fair that we make a chocolate cake for her and ice it for Mother’s Day. The father, at the head of the table, is either indifferent or critical of the food placed before him; therefore Irish soda bread, the simplest of home-baked bread, is ideal for him to bake and treat the family to on Father’s Day. It is hoped that fathers take the hint and hopefully do the washing up as well after cooking 🙂
It is traditional in Tamil Nadu to combine mango and fish in a curry. Mango and (especially) freshwater fish make a delicious curry combining the flavours of the season.
In the East Coast of India, deep sea fishing is banned in April and May to allow the fish to breed. The fishermen also use this time to repair and service their boats and mend their nets. They go to sea on the first of June and are very happy to return with their nets full. I bought fresh prawns from a stall run by the Fishermen’s Welfare Association, and prepared this pepper fry.
